When we changed this Notice and what we changed in it.

We make changes to this notice from time to time, particularly when we change how we use your information, and change our technology and services. Explanations of the terms used in the updates below can be found throughout the Data Protection Notice (DPN). This page should be read in conjunction with the full DPN.  You can always find an up-to-date version of this notice:
 

September 2025

 
In September 2025, we updated the Data Protection Notice (DPN) to provide greater detail and additional clarity within the following sections:
  • We inserted a paragraph to the introductory section explaining the obligations on data subjects when providing personal data to us (to ensure that any information provided is accurate, and to let others know if you provide their information to us).
  • We updated the table within the “What information do we process about you?” section to include more detail relating to the categories of information we process.
  • We added a table under “How we collect your information directly from you” which more clearly sets out what information is collected from you and how we collect it.
  • We added a table under “How we collect your information from others” to give additional clarity as to how we collect such information.
  • We added further explanations into “Why we use your information” to explain the Legitimate Interest and Consent lawful bases, which are reasons under the GDPR for us to use your information. 
  • We included more detail on the processing activities and our lawful basis for using your information in the “Why we use your information” table. We also added reference to using your information to:
    • manage legal claims and disputes,
    • support vulnerable customers or in the case of emergencies,
    • make automated decisions,
    • support credit assessment across AIB Group,
    • manage complaints and respond to regulatory investigations,
    • respond and fulfil data rights requests,
    • comply with court orders, and
    • respond to Verification of Payee requests from other financial institutions.
  • We have updated the table under “How we share your information with third parties” to include the lawful basis for sharing your information.
  • We have provided additional detail to explain when, and under what conditions, we will share your information outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

October 2023

  • We tidied up the presentation of this Data Protection Notice to make it easier to read.
  • We added some information to ‘Special category personal data’ to address information we receive from third parties acting on your behalf when you’re unable to engage with us yourself.
  • We added some more information under ‘Phone conversations’ on why we sometimes record phone conversations.
  • We added another reason why we might use your information under ‘Why we use your information’ because sometimes we need to use information to protect your interests and the interests of others.
  • We added a new reference to the assisted decision-making laws in the list of laws and regulations we follow when using your information.
  • We added another reason – to help you manage your money – in the list of why we might use your information to provide accounts and services.
  • We added a reference to companies we might sell loans to as a reason for sharing information with other companies.

September 2023

In September 2023 we combined our Frequently Asked Questions from this page with a new version of our Data Protection Notice written in plain language. We did not change the meaning of the notice.
